Periyar University

PRIDE (PERIYAR INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION)

The Periyar University has established a Directorate for Distance Education namely, PERIYAR INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION (PRIDE) from 2001-2002.

Presently Dr.G.Kunasekaran is working as Professor Cum Director of the PRIDE . The main agenda of the PRIDE is to provide higher education to all those desiring and deserving.

The open learning system is a unique and challenging mode of education offered at the University level. This system provides ample opportunities for those who desire to have University education at their place of work or residence. The method is popularly known as Distance Education.

Distance Education is perhaps the only way to meet the increasing demand for higher education especially in a developing country like India. Distance Education programmes are specially designed for:

  1. Students who discontinue their formal education owing topecuniary or other circumstances.
  2. Students residing in the geographically remote areas.
  3. Employed persons who cannot pursue their study as fulltime students.
  4. Individuals who wish to pursue learning for knowledge sake.
The Periyar Insitute of Distance Education (PRIDE) came into being to achieve the following objectives.
  • Democratizing Higher Education by taking it to the doorsteps of the learners.
  • Providing access to high quality education to all those who seek it, irrespective of age, region or formal qualifications.
  • Dravidian University

    The Dravidian University, Kuppam, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, India was founded on October 20, 1997 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, with the initial support extended by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala for an integrated development of Dravidian languages. .About the University The Dravidian University was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through a Legislature Act (No.17 of 1997) at Kuppam, a tri-lingual junction in the south-western part of Andhra Pradesh with the initial support extended by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala for an integrated development of Dravidian languages, literatures thus paving way for cultural and emotional integration of all the regions that carry forward the ancient historical torch of the nation. The University, which formally came into existence in 1997, began functioning with two departments in 1998, has today grown into a strong institution of 21 Academic Departments and 7 Research Centres.     Kuvempu University

    Kuvempu University is affiliating university in Karnataka established in 1987. It is a University with a distint academic profile, blending in itself commitment to rural ethos and modern spirit. It has 57 post-graduate departments of studies in the faculties of arts, commerce, science, education and law. The university has 97 affiliated colleges, four consitutent colleges and three autonomous colleges, three B.Ped Colleges, six law colleges and 30 B.Ed Collegews under its jurisdiction spread over 4 districts of Shimoga, Chitradurga, Chikmanglur and Davangere. It also has a Post-Graduate Centre at Davangere, which itself having completed 27 years of fruitful service.

    The academic life in the university is vibrant and exciting with seminars, symposia,special lectures and workshops throughout the year. Both the conventional and Non-conventional courses of study have updated syllabi responsive to needs of the contemporary society. The research orientation is innovative, original and directed to societal needs.

    Kuvempu University is the pioneer to introduce Choice Based Credit System(CBCS) in Karnataka, where the choice refers to the flexibility offered to the students for selecting a suitable course or paper and the credit refers to time spent for the study. Thus the CBCS is an advanced mode of higher learning that facilitates a good deal of freedom in designing ones’s own curriculum in masters’ degree. Further, this is a learner and teacher orientd by eliciting active participation of teachers in planning and management of academic programmes, establishing close interaction between teacher and students that contribute towards quality of education.
